We are calling for nominations for four Ordinary Trustees vacancies on the Trustee Board. We would like to thank the Trustees standing down for their service and dedication to BSH.

Candidates for the Board of Trustees must be a Full or Full (Reduced) Member at the nomination deadline and have been a Member (including Associate Membership) of the Society for at least two years prior to the date of nomination. We encourage applications from all eligible members, particularly those across the broader haematology professional community; Doctors, Trainee Doctors, Registered Nurses and Support Workers for Nurses, Allied Health Professionals, Physician Associates, Pharmacists, Biomedical and Clinical Scientists.

Why become a Trustee for the British Society for Haematology?

As a Trustee, you will help us fulfil our mission of transforming patient care through excellence in haematology, as well as being given the opportunity to expand your professional network and develop new skills. Working closely with the BSH staff team, you will play a vital role, volunteering your time and expertise to oversee everything the charity does, from setting strategy to being responsible for its work and finances. You will be an integral part in the good governance of the charity, ensuring that the organisation remains viable and adheres closely to its mission and the needs of its beneficiaries. The Board meets typically 4-5 times a year, including an overnight retreat usually held in September.

Quote from our Trustees

Professor John Snowdon
BSH Ordinary Trustee

“I would strongly recommend standing for election to the BSH Board of Trustees. Of course, there is the 'stress' of standing for election publicly amongst the BSH Membership. However, if you get elected it's a route to have significant voice and impact within our fantastic speciality of Haematology, not only in the UK and NHS, but also globally, and in areas of your specific expertise. Over the last 3 years, it has been an honour for me to work productively with the other elected Trustees and BSH Officers, whilst being supported by a first-class and capable team of BSH staff, all working together to help shape the future direction of Haematology - from workforce to the BSH Annual Scientific Meeting and the British Journal of Haematology, and more. You will need to put the time in to do justice to the role as an active BSH Board member, but there is flexibility these days to reduce the travelling previously required. Serving as a Trustee on the BSH Board has been hugely rewarding and I would encourage anyone who thinks that they can offer vision, skills and experience, along with commitment, to get themselves nominated."

Dr Shankaranarayana Paneesha
BSH Ordinary Trustee

“I have really enjoyed working as a BSH trustee over the last 15 months and strongly recommend this to all our BSH members. This is a very rewarding experience as get involved in projects and initiatives that are so important to our specialty both now and in planning for the future like haematology workforce initiative. It is a pleasurable experience of working with a motivated team of other trustees and most importantly our colleagues from BSH. Indeed, everyone is very supportive, enabling active discussions of new ideas among team on the board.”
