Hello, my name is Sharon and I am interested in becoming a governor.

I believe the provision of quality services that meets the health needs is vital to ensure the well-being and health of all members of the community who access hospital services.

I was a nurse and a midwife and I worked within the Bradford Hospital Trust. This gave me a working knowledge of hospitals policies as they apply at service user level.

I am a carer and understand the importance of being able to access and navigate health services provided by the hospitals more easily. I believe it is important to ensure services are inclusive and ensure that service users with protected characteristics have an equal footing when it comes to accessing health services from hospitals. The caring role very often involves making decisions and being an advocate for loved ones.

My experiences as a Healthcare professional, a carer and a service user gives me a unique perspective. I hope that this can help me not only represent my own views but also the views of others who are service users and stakeholders. I am of the opinion that sharing the views of others within this context will help not only to shape but to influence the continued development of services for the benefits of all service users. In my opinion, it is pivotal that all service users voices are heard so that they can help to shape the direction the Trust takes.

Dr Ashiq Hussain

I am currently working in a Further education college as a lecturer in mathematics- having spent 20 years in undertaking both lecturing and managerial duties. Educationally, I have a doctorate in Education – where my academic interest remains in social equalities, MA in Leadership and Management and an honours degree in Mathematical Sciences. Before entering education, I was self-employed being responsible for daily purchases and the statutory tax returns. I have lived in Bradford area for 50 years, having also served as a local Councillor from 1987-92 where much of my role entailed dealing with employment initiatives and educational matters in addition to wider community needs. During this time, I was a governor at what was then, Bradford and Ilkley Community College where I also chaired the Equal Opportunities sub-committee of the Governing Body. I was also a school governor on four other schools in the district during my tenure. Having lived in Bradford has enabled me to monitor the workings of the Trust through my own and some times my family’s sad experiences. I have been a community member of the Trust for a long time, monitoring its functionality in undertaking the difficult task of delivering services within the budgetary constraints. I believe I have the skills, experiences and the professional aptitude to serve the Trust in a voluntary capacity to help with its governance and development as a member of the Council of Governors. I have proven veracity and the unwavering commitment to the Nolan principles of public life.

Ibrar Hussain

I have served as a public governor for Bradford West for the last three years and, during this time I’ve tried my best to ensure our patients get the best service, treatment, and patient experience.

I live in the local area and work in the legal profession, I strongly believe that the role of public governors is fundamental to ensuring that a trust is properly governed and, meets the needs of the community that it serves.

I become a governor at a time when the Covid-19 pandemic was still peaking, this was followed by other recent challenges at the trust however, despite this, I have been able offer my skills, knowledge, and experience to ensure the trust continues to deliver in its objectives.

As a public governor, I have aimed to represent the local community, including those less able to represent themselves. Patient and public involvement is vital for healthcare, and I believe that a multifaceted approach can help to develop high quality effective services for patients.

I am passionate about quality improvement to make healthcare services the best they can be. Everyone who attends the hospital should leave happy with their treatment, patient care cannot be comprised in any way and, I want to continue to be involved with making that happen.

I hope you will lend me your support again.

Ruby Hussain

I have a strong desire to make a difference to people’s lives in a positive way. I was a part time Health Care Assistant during 2009-2013. In 2015 I had taken part in partnership with the hospital in raising money to support the new wing. I have worked as a Pastoral Manager and managed a team of 10 staff, which demonstrates that I have strong leadership and negotiation-skills allowing me to achieve targets. My role allowed me to collaborate with agencies and community groups. I worked as a staff governor at the school during 2009 – 2014. The role allowed me to challenge the leadership and hold them accountable for the strategic improvement plan. My duties included overseeing the finances of the school and balancing resources using a range of tool and ensuring the monies are spent effectively. My parents are elderly and are continuously in and out of hospital, this has driven my passion to be at a strategic level where I am empowered to share my contribution and experience to improve the welfare of all patients, as I have a first-hand experience in the working of the NHS. I have been a Bradford West governor in 2018 and a lot of changes that were put in place. I have work as a Senior Mental Health Worker and supported patients with severe trauma.
I believe becoming a Bradford West Governor I can implement new changes and support the public by listening to their voices.

Mahfooz A Khan

I have strong desires to make a difference to people’s lives in a positive way and I am able to champion the needs of patients, their families and staff. during Covid I worked in an outstanding NHS Covid walk in Centre as site lead Manager. I have managed a team of 12 staff, which demonstrates that I have strong leadership skills allowing me to achieve targets in a set timeframe.I have been previously elected as NHS governor for Bradford west on foundation trust where I was able to support staff on well being strategies and actively listen and value the contributions of different people around my local community and any issue's related to mental health.In 2021 I was recognised as best site lead manager which was given due to all the work that I had delivered during covid time.I have delivered mental health awareness on different platforms .I have worked as a community governor at the school during 1995 – 2018. The role allowed me to challenge the leadership team and hold them accountable for the strategic school. My duties included pupil assessment and attendance and overseeing the finances of the school and balancing resources using a range-of tool and ensuring the monies are spent effectively.At Citizens advice Bureau I was a part time Assistant manager from 1989 to 2003 and in 2010 I Volunteered to take part in partnership with the hospital in raising money to support the new wing. am very enthusiastic & committed to be part of cohesive team.
